finger pointing to the moon, but not the moon…as the saying goes.
i love this explanation. no one has a copyright on Ultimate Reality, or whatever one’s tradition may call it (just words). we must allow room for Mystery, for a bit of humility as we engage our experience, this life (and beyond). having a Beginner’s Mind as Zen practitioners say, or the mind of a child as Jesus said.
BUT we can find a tradition that gives us a practice and helps us engage this Mystery and navigate a path.

“Well, bless my soul. You’re a lonely soul. ‘Cause you won’t let go of anything you hold.” ~ Ryan Tedder
letting go, doesn’t mean we don’t care or stop caring. it means we recognize the pattern, the flow of life.
all arises and falls away to arise again new. the pattern repeats. we see it in nature, in seasons, in the movement of day and night. when we can see this clearly in our own lives, we can be free of the suffering from holding on, from tightening our grip, from getting stuck.
“When I’m down or frustrated… perhaps disappointed in myself, aware that I didn’t follow or embody my values like I “Should,” I like to sit Zazen with flowers. Why? Despite their delicate nature, and the random conditions they may find themselves in, they persist and prevail , choosing to bloom anyway.
To me, I find that incredibly encouraging. Never give up. Never give up. Never give up. Persist… persist… persist… bloom… bloom… bloom. No difficulty… no Lotus.
A silver bird flies over the autumn lake. When it has passed, the lake’s surface does not try to hold on to the image of the bird.

Happy Autumn Equinox friends!
Autumn is my favorite season, a season of letting go, a time to reflect on impermanence and change. yet, within it, the promise of love holds true. even as the light begins to wane, we know it is still there, hidden, quiet, burning still as it awaits the right conditions to brighten the sky once more. this too is how it is with love. always there, working quietly, awaiting the right conditions to fully flower once more. so with faith we hold our hands open, not closed, ready to freely receive and give, allowing the work of love within us to benefit the world.
“One day we will realize that big hearts will brings us more peace than big weapons.”
~ Anthony Douglas Williams
today is the #InternationalDayOfPeace.
peace begins in each of us, in hearts brave enough to stay open and compassionate, humble enough to know that we are all interconnected, no one above another, in minds balanced, steady, and sane, not overcome with fear or self-interest.
may we, with transformed hearts and sane minds, transform policies and cultures, into a world of peace.
