we are so easily caught up in them – and then we are trapped, we argue, we fight, we go to war. there’s no room for revelation, for awe, for inspiration, for newness – for life.
better to keep a beginner’s mind, to just dive in. dive into the Mystery, dive into Love.
if we want to speak about God, then we should speak about how we love.
we think of love as a feeling, but thankfully this isn’t accurate. such thinking may work well for sentimental cards, but doesn’t really work so well for life.
rather, love is something we commit to beyond feelings which come and go. it is something we make and take vows for.
love calls us, sometimes by invitation and sometimes by demand, to show up over and over again, often in new and creative ways – for ourselves as well as for others.
“It is this tender heart that has the power to transform the world.”
~ Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche
trust who you are beneath the hurt, beneath the fear and anger, behind the walls built up.
you are love.
find a practice that settles the mind, and opens your heart wider and wider.
it is the tender heart, that is the brave heart. it is the brave heart that has the courage to begin again, to show up time and time again, and be willing to embody love – to be love in this world during this life.
it isn’t about necessarily feeling it, it’s about moving from genuine tenderness and authenticity, which is a decision – a vow to do no harm or to at least harm less and less. we can trust this on our journey. we can trust love. we can trust the love living within us, loving through us.
finger pointing to the moon, but not the moon…as the saying goes.
i love this explanation. no one has a copyright on Ultimate Reality, or whatever one’s tradition may call it (just words). we must allow room for Mystery, for a bit of humility as we engage our experience, this life (and beyond). having a Beginner’s Mind as Zen practitioners say, or the mind of a child as Jesus said.
BUT we can find a tradition that gives us a practice and helps us engage this Mystery and navigate a path.

“Well, bless my soul. You’re a lonely soul. ‘Cause you won’t let go of anything you hold.” ~ Ryan Tedder
letting go, doesn’t mean we don’t care or stop caring. it means we recognize the pattern, the flow of life.
all arises and falls away to arise again new. the pattern repeats. we see it in nature, in seasons, in the movement of day and night. when we can see this clearly in our own lives, we can be free of the suffering from holding on, from tightening our grip, from getting stuck.
“When I’m down or frustrated… perhaps disappointed in myself, aware that I didn’t follow or embody my values like I “Should,” I like to sit Zazen with flowers. Why? Despite their delicate nature, and the random conditions they may find themselves in, they persist and prevail , choosing to bloom anyway.
To me, I find that incredibly encouraging. Never give up. Never give up. Never give up. Persist… persist… persist… bloom… bloom… bloom. No difficulty… no Lotus.
