some highlights from Senator Cory Booker’s tour de force floor speech still ongoing after 20 hours. this moment shouldn’t be underestimated as simply performative. of course it is performative in the same way protests are & boycotts are & speeches & sit ins are, etc.

but these are the tools of nonviolent action, of shining a spotlight onto the existential crisis we are in. words have power! words can speak truth to power! words can highlight harm, convict hearts, galvanize community, & call upon us to put love into action w/ fierce compassion.

this is happening. 

people with legal status, with same constitutional protections as citizens, not charged with any crimes being picked up and disappeared to El Salvador with little to no transparency, no due process, no access to attorneys, or chance to defend themselves. 

this is unconstitutional and illegal, but the admin doesn’t care. the admin is admitting it – defying court orders as they do.

we, each of us, must ask if this is  what we want our country to be. if we voted for this admin, is this what we voted for? we have a moral imperative to choose love or cruelty. we cannot abide both.

may hearts open, may wisdom arise.
