…the people.

is ALL people, including all those currently under attack by this administration, through rhetoric & policy alike. a value professed of such deep consequence, so many years ago, & though with many steps forward, have yet to fully realize & embody – that this country holds the view that all are created equal. are we ready to finally fully realize this into reality for all who have not been considered equal or have equal opportunity to live free & thrive? we currently have leaders in power who do not hold this value, this principle, this call from long ago. we have leaders who, given the opportunity, would seem to embrace oppression over the masses while hoarding wealth & squandering resources, would be rulers who embrace cruelty & destructive ideology – but this is a country for the people & by the people. democracy is not a spectator sport, it is presence & paying attention, it is determination & engagement. it is union built upon a foundation of loving our neighbor, REALLY loving our neighbor without exclusion, which is challenging, nonviolent, sacrificial, necessary work. may we rise to this moment, on this 250th, to authentically embody a country of “we the people” without exclusion into the next 250, if we are willing.
