Because we’re so caught up in outward aspects or inner chatter we cannot connect with the very thing which is our life force and it can only really be recognized by relaxing more and more, and at the same time keeping the mind very clear and focused. But not by effort. Effort can never get you there.

This is why they always express the mind as being spacious and vast like the sky, rather than something tight and focused. It doesn’t work like that.

the sacred brevity of life! 

RIP Treat Williams. 

to be honest, i didn’t follow his acting work all that much, but i came upon his tweets about a year or two ago, and i just loved how much he loved being on his property, in nature and posting about it. in fact, he posted this morning while out, mowing the lawn and of course i liked the tweet and what he had to say. and here it is the end of the day and he’s gone, his life ended in a motorcycle accident having no idea he would not see another day of mowing the lawn and smelling that fresh cut grass in the clear air and vast skies of his home.

the Zen Evening Gatha seeming ever appropriate for the fleeting nature of this life. a flash, then gone.
