9/11 16th Anniversary…

this is a #repost from last year. these thoughts seem even more pressing a year later and with our current political situation. the only thought i’d revise is in regards to calling out untruth. i’d say emphatically that we MUST call it out AND then not just stay there, but be the vehicles of change and healing we need.~j

“15 years ago the soul of this country received a shocking wound. the sky faded dark under ash, confusion and fear. the rug pulled out from under us. and in such a horrific moment we rose. the best of people rose to the surface wading through tears and differences.

it was a shift and an opportunity to stay with the rawness, the tenderness we felt, the feelings that inspired and motivated a sense of connection and community.
but we have forgotten, as we often do, save for special anniversaries set aside to remember. each of those, a chance to start fresh yet again…only to forget again. “never forget, never again” is fine and well, but let’s really mean it and make it so through our own hearts, words and actions. that’s where the work is that needs to be done, that’s where the real change will begin.
there seems to be more fear and anxiety today and it is stoked by those who would seek gain from this suffering. this has only led to further division.

as we have seen, just naming it or calling it untruth and getting into a battle of words simply leads to more suffering and seems to evoke little or no change.

it is time for a shift. we, each of us, needs to answer the call to heal. using our words, our actions, our very lives to bring benefit to a world thirsty for an end to such suffering. we need to be healers, to be bodhisattvas, shining a light on the alternatives to fear and anxiety, to anger and hate, to division, cynicism, conspiracy and demagoguery, aggression and violence.
this is a journey of heart and mind, so these are what we need to work with.
let’s get to work. ~j

speak no “post-truth”…

The spreading and celebration of incoherency, where all facts and truths are subjective and subject to what serves one’s own agenda from which only oneself and one’s insider family and friends benefit, is a degradation of the morals and ethics upon which the foundation of civilized society is built. This incoherency, rather than mutual understanding and acknowledgement based on facts, spreads unease and fear. A society living with unease and fear is in danger of losing itself in what can be a self-fulfilling abyss of distrust and paranoia. This distrust and paranoia can lead to an increase in greed, aggression, violence, and despair.

Though there may be no real thing such as “post-fact” or “post-truth,” the consequences from practicing such charlatanism can be real and harmful, as we are already witnessing.

Does this sound an alarm?

Good.

Then be an unwavering, inexhaustible advocate for truth. Stand and speak up for what is based on fact and not self-serving vagary, beginning with your own speech, writing, and actions. Hope is born on the words and actions of those who stand on the side of what is authentic and true, who call upon the better quality of all people to answer that call, by example. We need these examples, these bodhisattvas, we need to be the embodiment of the hope we seek and a reflection of what is authentic and true.

A “post-fact” and “post-truth” world is a world spinning out of control with no ground beneath it.  The world may continue, but we may not. And if we do, we may no longer recognize who we are or what we have become, having only a fuzzy memory of what it meant to be human. A memory the “post-fact” and “post-truth” gatekeepers will slander, as they label it a myth.

But many of us, I hope most of us, will know better and will continue to shed a light of what is factual and true.

Stay awake. Stay aware. Bear witness. Speak truth.

ignite hope…

where there is darkness
shine your light

when there is falsehood
be a witness for truth

where there is aggression
move in peace

but move, you must
and speak aloud so all can hear

may your light shine forth
into every darkened corner
of this place

we call home

great souls…

always remember, dear friends…

“Nothing baffles the schemes of evil people so much as the calm composure of great souls.”
~ Gabriel Mirabeau
“Real love and truth are stronger in the end than any evil or misfortune in the world.”
~ Charles Dickens

…i would revise the first quote from “evil people” to “people who do evil”…knowing that people, though at times broken and perhaps so horribly wounded and lost as to cause harm, are not inherently evil.

a response to Chick-fil-A…the only truth is Love…or become a vegetarian ;)

“It is better to light one candle than to curse the darkness.” ~ Chinese proverb

there are many running around shouting, “Truth, Truth!” let them shout.

the only truth is Love, dear ones.

you are beautiful, your love is beautiful. it may take a while for the world to catch up to such beauty. you’re doing your part, the Sacred work of just by being Present and continuing to live in Love. let the rest falter in their folly. Love will open their hearts in time. who can contend with Love?

take heart, have peace…or become a vegetarian 😉
