there’s still good to take in…

there’s a lot to be concerned about, distressing news that needs our attention, and is affecting many we know and even ourselves directly or indirectly in a very real way.

…but that isn’t the whole picture. not everything is broken. there is still so much for our hearts and minds to take in that is not distressing. recognizing what is good and also true can help counter balance what is not good and also true.

Easter…

love this perfect Easter message from Pope Francis, shared by a favorite Buddhist teacher 🙏🏻

Love is the container which holds all of life/death. the path in which we journey through life/death.

Love is resurrection – love is IT.

Love calls us to roll the stone away and come out of the tomb, to be a new life and embodiment of Love.

encountering our suffering…

for many of us, we think if we ignore our suffering it will go away, or that we can outrun it, or if we go to war with it we can somehow subdue or overcome it.

but it doesn’t really seem to work out that way. what we don’t transform, what we don’t heal, never seems to go away. it just comes out in some other manifestation, usually harmful towards ourselves or towards others.

but there is another option.

we can, instead, meet our suffering with an open heart and with love. we can come face to face with our suffering and allow it to touch us and teach us. only in the authentic spaciousness of love can our suffering transform us and be transformed. only in the spaciousness of an open heart can we find healing and the freedom to truly let go.

this is a practice.

the glass is already broken…

“You see this goblet?” asks Ajahn Chah, the Thai meditation master. “For me this glass is already broken. I enjoy it; I drink out of it. It holds my water admirably, sometimes even reflecting the sun in beautiful patterns. If I should tap it, it has a lovely ring to it. But when I put this glass on the shelf and the wind knocks it over or my elbow brushes it off the table and it falls to the ground and shatters, I say, ‘Of course.’ When I know that the glass is already broken, every moment with it is precious.”
