the targeting of immigrants, of trans people, of those who are poor or sick, or marginalized & cast out for whatever reasons is targeting our neighbor. it is especially egregious because it attacks the very dignity of people. friends, we do not have the right to do that. we do not have the right to destroy the lives of people we do not understand, disagree with, or mistakenly see as “other” & that is what is happening now with this administration. people’s lives are being destroyed. 

a person’s dignity is inherent to their existence & life itself, a sacred birthright. we cannot say out of one side of our mouth “for God so loved the world” & then out of the other side of our mouth say “America First”, or deny someone’s lived experience as a sacred embodiment of life. to do so is playing God. it is the opposite of love. this is why i find it so offensive. such cruelty is an affront to life itself. we do not have the right to deny or remove the dignity of others, though in our attempt to do so we harm & cause suffering. it does seem, however, we do have the capacity in our acts of inhumanity, & our indifference to harm & suffering, to abandon our own dignity, & we are seeing this happen daily.
