listen…

we could all benefit from better listening. listening, is an undervalued quality and skill. I think, especially in an era where everything is so fast moving and immediate.

true listening, conscious listening, is an act of patience, an act of openness, and an act of generosity.

true listening is also an act of letting go and allowance. it involves releasing our own agenda, and truly listening to what is being said, what we are hearing.

our participation is one of silence, which is something most of us seem uncomfortable with. but, if we are willing to be curious – to be open, then when we truly listen, we learn new things and we grow, and our awareness is heightened.

true listening it’s not just with the ears, it is also with the heart.

#TheShapeOfThings

i fell in love with black & white photography during my recent dive into the 7 day b&w photo challenge.

it became an extension of my meditation practice, my Buddhist – more specifically Zen aesthetic and art.

sitting. observing. listening – above all, listening.

so much around us is speaking to us, reaching out to connect, simply with its inherent presence if we are open to it.

the light. the dark. the shape of things.

i want to document this new journey. what has been made and what can be found. hashtagging these b&w photographs with #TheShapeOfThings.

i look forward to seeing anew and hope it brings something valuable to the journey.

stand…

haters gonna hate, as it’s been said.

there will always be critics.  don’t be ruffled, just do your thing.  answer the call in your heart that speaks to the needs of those who are suffering, of those who seek justice, of those who are oppressed or discriminated against, of those who have been left outside and in the margins of society.  love leaves no one out.  stand with love.

are we willing?

Are we willing to listen?

Are we willing to see?

Our response to suffering, whether in Nepal, or Baltimore, or the arguments presented to the Supreme Court on this day, reflects our humanity and our ability to look and listen beyond our own perspective and our own initial emotional responses, from a place that reflects our interdependence, our capacity for compassion, and service to the principle of alleviating this world from suffering from where we are in this moment, with what we have in this moment, and who we are in this moment.
